Durham Youth Council

Giving Durham Region youth a voice is something we’ve been doing for over a decade and we’re proud of the work we’ve done to ensure the next generation have a say in their future.

OUR
STORY
.

The Durham Youth Council strives to bring youth together to collectively discuss the issues of the day effecting the youth of Durham Region. Topics and debate range from community safety to transit to environment.

In the past, DYC has written successful policy pieces that have been presented to local governments, as well as passing numerous motions on hot topics in Durham Region. Things like the Clarington EFW, Pickering Airport and water fluoridation have all been discussed at the DYC.

Youth Councillors are appointed via application on a first come, first serve basis. Members can be between the ages of 14 – 24. Youth Councillors represent their local municipality in which they live or learn. They are committed to being the voice at the table for their peers and they take this responsibility seriously.
